Fishtail Poon Hill Sunrise Short Trek
429

Fishtail Poon Hill Sunrise Short Trek is an experience for first time trekking tenderfoot kids and their families seeking the thrills of natural beauty and sublime features typically found when doing the Ghorepani Poon hill sunrise trek. This is a soft trip that stirs up your feelings in the green woods especially the gentle part of the mountains for the loveliness of unseen nature is perfect for those who are short of time but still want to slog it out on the middle hills of Nepal.

Beginning at the comfortable altitude of 1100m the trail follows the ridges created by the Burundi Khola and takes you through terraced farmlands and bamboo forests – along with friendly local people as they move from village to village on their daily tasks.

Along this Fishtail Poon Hill Sunrise Short Trek, second day passes through ancient bird-filled forests of rhododendron, oak, maple and pine as you climb to the prosperous village of Ghorepani. From here, an early morning climb to the summit of Poon Hill offers breathtaking views of some of Nepal’s highest and most dramatic peaks, including three of the world’s 148000m peaks: Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu.

Day 1
Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara then Trek from Nayapul through Tikhedhunga (1495m) to Ulleri (1950m) - approx 6 hours

Early morning, transfer to Kathmandu’s domestic airport and fly to Pokhara. Then, drive along the zigzag route to Nayapul where we commence our trek to Birethanti, a large and prosperous riverside village at the confluence of the Modi and Bhurungdi Kholas (streams). We hike up to Sudame along the off road and then climb gradually up the side of the valley, Tikhedhunga.

Cross suspension metal bridge and steep ascent on stone staircases to the village of Ulleri – and an amazing landscape of valley floor where we came during the day with marvelous views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli.

Day 2
Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani (2850m) - approx 6 hours

After breakfast, our pleasant trekking begins through rhododendron and oak forests. The scenery will give you the energy to continue up the steps as you immerse yourself in the walk. After a few hours and with several breaks we reach Ghorepani. Upper Ghorepani (Deurali) where we stay in this trip, offers fantastic views of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna Himalayas.

Day 3
Hike up to Poon Hill (3210m) then descend from Ghorepani to Hile - approx 7 hours

Make a pre-dawn start for the 45 minute walk up Poon hill (3,210m/10,530ft); through rhododendron forest. From the grassy top of the hill there is an unobstructed panoramic view of the high Himalayas stretching from far western Dolpo, and Dhaulagiri (8172m), the Annapurna Range in the north, including Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and on to Manaslu (8163m) in the northeast. To the south, the mist slowly rises from the flatlands towards India. After countless photographs, walk back to Ghorepani for breakfast and then retrace your steps on the easier and faster down route to Hile (trailhead). Then, 3 hours off road drive to Nayapul to Pokhara by jeep/taxi. Rest of day free.

Day 4
Drive back from Pokhara to Kathmandu - approx 7 hours

After breakfast, transfer to Tourist bus station and 07:30am drive back to Kathmandu by tourist bus. This scenic drive offers fascinating glimpses of rural Nepal as you pass through Middle Hill scenery along the famous rafting Trishuli River originated from Tibet north east of Kathmandu.
